Description
In the West and Midwest, a wash is a dry stream bed, a gully. At Toadstool Geologic Park in Nebraska, such water-worn ravines are not uncommon. The sides are steep, constantly changing as they are eaten away each time there's a hard rain. Here a stunted tree clings tenaciously to the rim, its roots protruding from the sandy soil.
