Description
Constructed in the Second Renaissance Revival style, the Blackstone Building in Omaha, Nebraska has a five part look from the front, created by three pavilions that project from a central part. This is the south end of the dark red brick structure. Windows are highlighted with light terra cotta bands and detailing.
Located at Farnam and 36th Streets, the eight story structure was constructed in 1916 as a family or residential hotel. The apartments varied from one to six rooms and did not have kitchens, a fact that distinguished the Blackstone from an apartment complex. Residents ate in one of the hotel dining rooms. In 1920, Charles Schimmel bought the building and turned it into a regular luxury hotel. The present owners, the Kiewit Foundation, converted most of the hotel into office space.
