Description
Cape Bear Lighthouse is on the southeast coast of Prince Edward Island in Kings County in Canada. It was built in 1881 and has been moved back from the cliff edge twice, in 1947 and 2014, due to erosion. I took this photo in 2011, two and a half years before the last move. The square, tapered, wooden tower has played an important historical role. It guided fishermen and sailors, communicated with ice-breaking steamers that linked Nova Scotia and PEI, received distress communications from the Titanic the night she sank, and spotted German U-boats during World War II.
