Description
This "Do Not Feed the Coyotes" sign is everything a prohibition sign should be: eye-catching, graphic, and easy to interpret. The red circle with a diagonal line through it is the universal "no symbol", a marking usually placed over a pictogram (such as the silhouette of a hand holding a cookie and the open-mouthed head of a coyote used here) to indicate that something is not allowed. Such signs are common in or near city, state and national parks, wildlife preserves, zoos, campgrounds -- in short, any place where this activity would be undesirable. Artificially feeding wild animals can have many negative effects. It can cause dietary vitamin and mineral deficiencies, can transfer disease (among animals or between humans and animals), can encourage aggressive behavior toward people, can be a danger to the people doing the feeding, can attract wild or feral animals to places where they are not wanted, etc. So when you see a sign such as this, pay attention. It has doubtless been put up by someone who knows more about your safety and the well-being of the animals than you do.
