Description
I have chosen this bleak and rather melancholy winter landscape with its leafless trees and dormant field and only the gently falling snow to bring it to life to illustrate the first verse of a late 19th century poem.
Are ye the ghosts of fallen leaves,
O flakes of snow,
For which, through naked trees, the winds
A-mourning go?
Or are ye angels, bearing home
The host unseen
Of truant spirits, to be clad
Again in green?
