Description
Seen here in a profile close-up, Mesa is a ferruginous hawk that lives at the Raptor Recovery Center at Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue, Nebraska. Like most of the others on public display there, because of its injuries, this bird would not survive if released back into the wild. The ferruginous hawk, Buteo regalis, is very large. Its name comes from the rust color on the shoulders and legs.
