Description
This old hay rake, once used to gather alfalfa cuttings into long concentrated rows to make it easier for the baler to pick up the cuttings that would then become a bale of hay, now sits near the crest of a hill on a farm in eastern Nebraska. I took this photo at sunset on a cold winter day, just after a snowfall that left everything buried eight inches deep in soft powder. The bare branches of the leafless trees along the ridge create a delicate pattern against the pinks, blues and purples of the evening sky.
