Description
A row of pilings extends into the Caloosahatchee River and Estuary. The posts are all that's left of a pier Thomas Edison had built when he constructed his winter estate, now known as the Edison Ford Winter Estates, in Fort Myers, Florida. The structure was originally built to facilitate offloading of construction materials onto the property. However, a small house or pavillion was soon built at the end of it and the pier was used more for entertainment and recreation. At this point, known as Edison Inlet, we are not far from where the wide, now tidal river flows into the Gulf of Mexico south of Cape Coral.
