Description
A wasp, probably a great golden digger wasp (Sphex ichneumoneus) lands on the flowers of a swamp milkweed plant Asclepias incarnata). The shallow depth of field results in a softly blurred bokeh background, and the square crop format places the insect at a pleasing diagonal. Because of the banded body, these wasps are often thought to be yellow jackets. While yellow jackets are social wasps and aggressive, digger wasps are solitary and quite non-aggressive.
