Artist's Description
Properly speaking, this is not the hand of a falconer. A falconer is defined as someone who hunts with, raises, or trains falcons or other birds of prey for hunting. The beautiful peregrine falcon here, sitting calmly on the gloved hand of its handler, can no longer hunt for herself. Her name is Aero, and she was found in Colorado in 2009 with a shoulder injury from which she did not heal and cannot be released back into the wild. She is now cared for by an organization called Raptor Recovery of Nebraska where she is used for educational purposes.
