Description
The Israeli sand gecko has a head that looks almost too big for its body, especially from this angle. I caught this one licking a drop of water from its face - and enjoying it very much. These lizards, the Stenodactylus species, have many common names among which are dune, dwarf, micro, and whip-tail sand geckos. They are native to northeastern Africa and Southeastern Asia. They don't climb but rather burrow in the sand.
