Description
A female Anna's hummingbird, Calypte anna, perches on the side of the nest she has built of plant fibers and spider silk and feeds one of her chicks. The other chick doesn't seem very happy about the situation, but it will have to wait for mom to go get more food as the female takes care of the eggs and babies by herself. Medium-sized for hummers, Anna's are native to Baja California but they have expanded their breeding range since the 1950's. This photo was taken in southern Arizona.
