Description
This architectural detail shot is from the French chateau of Azay-le-Rideau in the Loire Valley. Because it was constructed between 1518 and 1527 during the reign of Francois I (Francis I), the salamander and ermine, the personal emblems of the king and his wife, are carved above the portal below a mezzanine that opens to the central staircase (escalier d'honneur) beyond. The architectural style of the castle is Early French Renaissance.
