Description
A delicate green dragonfly appears to be suspended over the still water of a pond as he clings to the underside and edge of a water lily petal as if he is in hiding.
Among the fastest flying insects in the world, the dragonfly (Odonata) has multifaceted eyes, two pairs of wings which, though transparent, are very strong, and an elongated body. Their larvae are aquatic so they are usually found around ponds, wetlands, lakes, or other shallow inland bodies of water. They eat other small insects so they are considered predators; they, in turn, are preyed upon by creatures as diverse as frogs, spiders, birds, and lizards.
