Description
This bison skull is mounted on the wall over a fireplace in one of the rooms of Bents Old Fort, a National Historic Site and Landmark in southeastern Colorado. The fort was originally built by the Bent brothers about 1830 so they could trade with fur trappers and Indians. It was destroyed in the 1850s but has been completely rebuilt based on excavations, original sketches and paintings, and diaries kept at the time. All the rooms have period appropriate furnishings and accessories.
