Description
Cape Bear Lighthouse is located on Prince Edward Island, on the southeastern tip. As you can see, the bluff it sits on has eroded through the years and in this photo, taken in 2011, the lighthouse sits dangerously near the edge. It was moved inland in 2014 and 2015 (two moves for a total of 500 feet). Built in 1880, the lighthouse has a fascinating history which includes a Marconi Wireless Telegraph Station built next to it in 1905, receiving distress signals from the Titanic, and serving as a lookout for spotting German U-boats during World War II. I also have a horizontal version in my Canada gallery in which the perspective includes a glimpse of the ocean.
