On the weekend after Thanksgiving, the December holiday season officially begins when the lights that city workers have been stringing for weeks in Gene Leahy Mall are finally and ceremoniously turned on. The trees and bushes provide a glittering foreground for some of the well-known downtown buildings, and the entire scene is reflected in the waters of the park lagoon.
