This beautiful red male flame skimmer, also commonly called a firecracker skimmer, came to rest on a slender leaf over a shaded pond. This resulted in a dark background that set the veins of the fragile, transparent wings off beautifully - a background that I found so attractive that I darkened it to black for the drama it added to the insect.
