Description
Fort Falls is a modest (45 feet high) but lovely waterfall in the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge. Visitors can view the cascade by descending a metal staircase and taking a short hike from the parking area on the rim of a canyon carved out by the Niobrara River down to the floor of the valley below. The refuge itself lies just east of Valentine, Nebraska. It was created by an executive order from President Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 after a military fort located there was closed.
