Description
This Woodhouse or American toad (Anaxyrus woodhousii or Anaxyrus americanus) lives in a garden on a bluff near the Missouri River in Nebraska, at Fort Atkinson, to be precise. Without seeing the belly, it's impossible to tell which of the two it is - and indeed they are virtually the same. These toads are native to North America. I had always thought that there was a distinction between toads and frogs, but when I looked this fellow up, I found that the distinction is more folkloric than scientific.
