This public art is known as the Gloucester Fisherman's Memorial. It stands at the edge of the harbor, facing the sea, on the Stacy Esplanade in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Cast in bronze, the 8-foot sculpture rests on a 4-foot granite base. On the front is inscribed the first phrase of verse 23 of the 107th Psalm: "They that go down to the sea in ships"; on the back (street) side are the words "Memorial to the Gloucester Fishermen". The statue, sculpted by Leonard F. Craske, was erected in 1923 to commemorate the city's 300th anniversary.
I use my camera to explore the world around me and as a basis for creative expression. Because I live in Nebraska, I have a fondness for rural scenes that will be evident as you explore my images, but I enjoy traveling and have many other interests as well. I hope you enjoy your visit.
