Description
Old metal fire escape stairs on building exteriors always catch my eye, especially when they are casting strong shadows. Here a grouping of three openings - two windows and the upper part of a door - are visually linked by the diagonal of the steps. With the ladder folded up, the landing of the staircase is suspended six or more feet off the ground. The practical explanation for this is obvious - they are intended for exit in case of an emergency and not for access to the interior. This building is on the main street of Louisville, Nebraska.
