This happy looking gecko (Gekko gecko) is a Tokay gecko. Although originally from southeastern Asia and the Pacific Islands, it has been successfully introduced in Florida, Martinique, and possibly some other areas. I found it interesting that it is considered an invasive species in the Florida Keys but threatened in other parts of the world where it is thought to have supernatural powers, is thought to bring good luck, and is poached for the medicinal trade.

I use my camera to explore the world around me and as a basis for creative expression.
