Description
This abstract began life as a metal embellishment made of rusty, irregularly shaped circles and ovals welded together and to a long iron bar. There was a solid wood door behind the ironwork - whether to a residence itself or to a courtyard, I could not tell. This is but a detail; as I wanted the piece to be "complete" in and of itself, I removed a number of partial ovals from around the edges. There was also a shiny lock and keyhole on/in that central rectangle, but I took them out, too, in order to leave only the shapes, texture, and tones of the rust against a black background. A friend said the result reminds her of an alphabet of sorts, or of DNA, and I must agree that the design fairly begs to be decoded.
