Description
A simple white cross marks the final resting place of an American soldier who died during or following the Normandy invasion in World War II. The words on the cross say, "Here rests in honored glory a comrade in arms known but to God". The cross is one of over 9,000 markers at the Normandy American Cemetery near Colleville-sur-Mer in France. The cemetery is on a bluff above Omaha Beach and on soil granted to the United States by France after the war; it is managed by the U.S. government.
