Description
The Seine River (la Seine) is a long waterway that runs through the Paris Basin in the north of France. The view here is from the Eiffel Tower (la Tour Eiffel) looking west southwest. Lining its banks are old, self-propelled barges, boat-homes that offer a unique way of living in the heart of this capital city. The tree-lined street on the near side (the Rive Gauche or Left Bank) is the Quai Branly; on the far side (Rive Droite or Right Bank) is the Avenue de New York. The bridge near the left edge of the frame is the Pont de Bir-Hakim. It is an arch bridge with two levels; the lower level is for automobile and pedestrian traffic while the upper level is a railroad viaduct. The building in the lower left corner is a Parisian mansion, occupied by businesses at ground level and residential apartments on the upper levels.
