Description
The cathedral of Our Lady of Paris, la cathedrale de Notre Dame de Paris, is the most visited tourist site in Paris, France. The statues here are part of the left portal of the main (west) façade. From left to right you see the Emperor Constantine, an angel, St Denis (patron saint of Paris), and another angel. St Denis is portrayed holding his head as legend has it that this 3rd century Christian martyr and Catholic saint, decapitated and martyred for his faith, carried his head as he walked several miles preaching a sermon on repentance.
On April 15, 2019, fire engulfed the cathedral. Though the damage was considerable, many have vowed they will rebuild what was destroyed.
