Description
The lemur tree frog (Hylomantis lemur) is a small, thin, frog native to Costa Rica, Panama, and northern Columbia. It is distinctive for its locomotion; it uses all four legs and walks rather than hops, which accounts for the skinny legs you notice here. Its habitat includes lowland forests and freshwater marshes. This specimen was awake and active for this photo. Although these frogs are vibrant green during the day when they cling to the bottoms of broad leaves to sleep, they turn brown at night when they are active and hunting for their insect prey.
