Description
A pair of mallard ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) swims and feeds among the water lily leaves in a small pond. These dabbling or puddle ducks, so called because they feed mainly at the surface, often upend but leave their tails above the surface rather than diving for their food. In the source photo, the pond was so filled with floating leaves that it was difficult to make out the birds. I did quite a bit of cleaning before I painted the image digitally.
