The male mandarin duck (Aix galericulata) is definitely the most colorful duck I've ever seen. It's native to Asia, but population clusters can be found in many other places including Great Britain, Germany, and the United States. It prefers forest land near lakes and rivers, but especially in Europe has adapted to more open areas around fresh water (lakes, wetlands, marshes, rivers).
