Description
Dad was a newspaperman all his life. I don't know that he ever set type, but anything to do with printing and writing reminds me of him. So many years ago I bought a couple of vintage letterpress drawers, intended for storing movable type back in the day but perfect for small objects. Displayed in this one are an assortment of things meaningful to me. The two monkeys and the white, porcelain swan were part of a large "glass animal" collection from my childhood. The three cubes in the upper left (there are two more near and on the bottom) are wooden perfume containers; they screw apart and held solid French perfume (in a kind of wax) purchased by my father for my mother when he was in France at the end of World War II. There's an old wooden thimble that belonged to my grandmother, a tiny Native American pot my mother sent me for Christmas, and any number of items picked up as we traveled on vacations and moved around the world.
