This charming little building is located at 1213 Jones St. in Omaha's Old Market district. It was originally constructed in 1887 as part of an Anheuser-Busch beer depot and is the only surviving building of the complex which originally also included an ice house, a stable, a wagon shed that connected them. The structures were grouped around a courtyard (east side of this building) that faced Jones Street (north). The brewery was an important local manufacturing industry until 1919 when Prohibition shut it down.
The beautiful ornamention of the facade includes a variety of brick courses (the architectural term for layers of brick, stone, tiles, etc. running vertically or, here, horizontally in a wall), cut stone trim, and metal finials, coping, and cornice. The round-arched window and door opening are also distinctive.
Because I took this photo straight on, the structure lacks dimension and looks more like a model than an actual building. It is actually rectangular...
