Description
Located on the corner of 16th and Farnam Streets in downtown Omaha, this 14-story, U-shaped building, was the original First National Bank building. The first floor held a lobby and street level shops; bank offices were on the second and third floors until 1970 when the bank moved to new quarters. The building now houses retail stores and offices on the lower levels, apartments on the upper floors. Built in 1917, the steel-frame structure is covered in brick, granite, and terra cotta detailing; decorations are in the Late Renaissance Revival style. The view here is of the third and fourth floors. A prominent wall cornice is at the top. The fourth floor features paired windows separated by antefixes which give the impression of being roof decorations for the unit below. Below the windows is a bead and reel molding. The third floor also has paired windows, separated here by the tops of fluted columns that visually tie the second and third stories together.
