Description
In Fremont County, Iowa, this building is known as the Old Knox church. The Liberty Baptist congregation, organized in 1857, built this meeting house near Thurman in1871 and met there until 1922 when they moved the three miles into Knox, a now defunct hamlet. Obviously the structure is now abandoned, but it's still easy to see the charm in its simple but stately architecture. The signs on the front say "No Trespassing" and warn of feral cats; I can tell you that if the disrepair of the building hadn't been enough to keep me back, the cats would have been. I did use my telephoto to get pictures of some of them which I have in my Animals - Cats and The Midwest - Illinois Iowa etc. collections.
