Description
The Pont du Gard was a Roman aqueduct constructed in about 50 AD. Located near Nimes in southern France, it was the highest and is one of the best preserved of these important bridges and brought water to Nimes for several centuries. It was mostly underground, but at this point crossed the gorge of the Gardon River. You are seeing the top two of three tiers of the bridge.
