Description
The red barns on this eastern Nebraska farm really are as pretty as they look. And, though they may no longer serve the purpose for which they were built, they are fully functional, too,
The drive through shed on the left was originally a "corn crib". Whole ear corn would be augured in from the top windows and there was a roof access once; then the corn dried and was fed to the livestock. This structure is now used primarily for storage of large equipment, including a tractor.
The small shed in the center was a "granary" where the miscellaneous grains were stored. It is now used for storage of smaller items.
The big barn by the tree on the left was a milking or dairy barn back in the day. Today the family uses the spacious building for additional "living" space - primarily when they have large get-togethers.
This extreme panorama has a 1:4 ratio - it is four times as long as it is high. I have also given the source photo a pronounced painted look. Please use the full resolution preview tool to view the brush strokes.
