Description
The Rolla Building on the Missouri S&T campus was built in 1871 as a city high school. At the time of its construction, the Missouri School of Mines leased half the building for classes. Originally the School of Mines and Metallurgy, it became the University of Missouri at Rolla and then the Missouri University of Science and Technology. In the 1990's, the building was completely renovated inside. It now houses the offices of the Mathematics and Statistics department. The smoke stack was part of the power plant that dates from the 1940's and generated steam for the campus. The plant was decommissioned in 2014 the iconic smoke stacks remain.
