Description
The ruby-throated hummingbird is small – about the size of a sparrow or smaller. While the back and top of the head are an emerald or yellow-green, the underparts are grayish white. These birds get their name from the fact that the male has a bright red throat; however, the female (seen here) does not. This girl was visiting my zinnias – unusual for these birds as they prefer tube-shaped flowers. She did seem to find the zinnias tasty, though, as she kept coming back. I took this picture and others through my kitchen window so as not to disturb her by going outside. She beat her wings so rapidly while hovering to sip nectar that I didn’t realize what she was until I downloaded my photos; I thought she was a sphinx or hummingbird moth.
This file is uploaded with a transparent background. It will be black on wall art but buyers will have the option to choose a different colored background on a product. This makes it especially nice for apparel (women's t-shirts run VERY small - be sure to use the sizing chart).
