Description
A vertical orientation is unusual for a landscape, but the stately saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantean), seen here in the beautiful golden light of a Southwestern sunset, almost seems to demand it. This tree-like desert plant can grow to heights of 40 feet (12 meters). I photographed these in the Saguaro National Park in southern Arizona. Though most people picture “arms” on these cacti, they don’t grow them until they are about 75 years old and some never have them.
