Description
The giant allium (Allium giganteum) flower is very showy, whether occurring singly as this solitary blossom shows or in a group. The bloom forms on a leafless stalk, high above a cluster of leaves, which makes it easy to isolate against a background. The purple and green colors give it a springlike look, and indeed I photographed this specimen in early May. The plant is in the same family as onions, garlic, leeks, and other so called aromatics.
