A blue poison dart frog (Dendrobates tinctorius) sprawled on a red-orange bromeliad flower looks as if it was trying to avoid the plant's spiky petals - and it probably was. Soon after I took this photo, the tropical frog, indigenous to Central and South America, moved into a more comfortable position on the surface of one of the petals. Called dart frogs or arrow frogs because Amerindians used toxins some of them secreted to poison the tips of their blow darts, the main defense of these small amphibians lies in their bright colors which warn off predators.

I use my camera to explore the world around me and as a basis for creative expression. Because I live in Nebraska, I have a fondness for rural scenes that will be evident as you explore my images, but I enjoy traveling and have many other interests as well. I hope you enjoy your visit.
