This architectural detail comes from the top (third story) of the south side of the building known as the third Sarpy County courthouse. Built in 1922-23, it was designed by the architect W. F. Gernandt in what is known as the classical revival style. It's a quietly stately building made of bricks, stone, and concrete. Here you see two of the four fluted columns that frame the main entrance on the south side of the building. Above the windows is a carved header capped by a cornice just below the roof line. The building is now used as the city hall for the town of Papillion, Nebraska. The 4th (newest and current) county courthouse, built in the 1970's, is located several miles to the south.
I use my camera to explore the world around me and as a basis for creative expression. Because I live in Nebraska, I have a fondness for rural scenes that will be evident as you explore my images, but I enjoy traveling and have many other interests as well. I hope you enjoy your visit.
