Description
The downy blue violet (Viola sororia) is a member of the Viola family (Violaceae). It is seen here with one of its heart-shaped leaves also in focus against the softly blurred, grassy background of a wooded area in north eastern Nebraska. The common name comes from these soft, fuzzy or downy leaves. This wildflower is native to and common in wetlands and wooded areas in the Midwest.
