Description
This elaborate wrought iron grille surmounts the entryway to the Omaha Building at 1650 Farnam Street in Omaha, Nebraska. The beautiful, Italianate style building with terra cotta ornamentation was constructed in 1888-89 for the New York Life Insurance Company whose NYL logo appears in the medallions in the upper corners of this image. In 1906 the building was purchased by and renamed the Omaha National Bank Building.
After the bank moved out in the early 1970's, the building sat empty for a few years and was scheduled for demolition when Robert Kutak and his partners purchased and rehabilitated it for their law firm. Almost thirty years later, in 2006-07, the firm renovated the building once again. At that time, a large conference center was created on the second floor. Glass placed behind this grille created a beautiful window for its main room.
