"Down the Side" is an employee staircase with metal treads and balusters and wooden railings, a utilitarian alternative to the central marble staircase in the state capitol building in Des Moines, Iowa. Its squared-off curves, presented here from a downward looking perspective, are slightly awkward when compared with a fully rounded spiral design, but the stairwell has an appeal of its own. As visitor Michel Verhoef said, "Wow . . . it's like an arm huggin' me :)))"
A slightly different perspective titled "Up the Side" is also available in my Design Elements and Abstracts gallery; both images are also available in color.

I use my camera to explore the world around me and as a basis for creative expression. Because I live in Nebraska, I have a fondness for rural scenes that will be evident as you explore my images, but I enjoy traveling and have many other interests as well. I hope you enjoy your visit.
