Description
This is one of two smaller towers on either side of a large, copper-domed tower that is the architectural centerpiece of the ornate Rose theater building in Omaha, Nebraska. As you can see here, the building's exterior featured elaborate brickwork, beautiful terra cotta detailing, romantic windows and balconies, and tower balustrades. Built as a grand movie palace in 1926 and designed in a Mediterranean-themed Moorish style, the theatre only had a few years of opulent glory before the stock market crash forced its owner to sell. In the succeeding years, it had many names (originally the Riviera, later the Astro and, briefly, the Paramount) and uses including, at one time, a bowling alley. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
