Description
A white-tailed deer fawn stands in an opening in the woods and stares at me intently. Its mother had bolted but watched alertly from the side, and it wasn't long before she came back and led this youngster and its twin to safety among the trees. The ungulate, Odocoileus virginianus, also known as a Virginia deer, is very common in North and Central America as well as in the northern part of South America. I took this picture in eastern Nebraska.
