Description
The last seeds of a dandelion wait to be picked up by a breeze and blown away - hopefully (from their perspective) to someplace where they can germinate, grow, and bloom again as new plants. When we were kids, we used to pick these, close our eyes, make a wish, and blow, believing that the wish would somehow be granted as the seeds took flight. For this picture I combined a photo of a dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) seed head, most of its seeds already dispersed by the wind, and a watercolor painting, the flowing shapes of which reminded me of their flight. This plant in the Asteraceae family is generally considered to be a weed, but as it is an early bloomer, it is very important to pollinators and in many places home owners are encouraged to let it bloom.
