Artist's Description

If you drive the dirt roads in the Loess Hills in western Iowa, you may come upon these two: 138th Trail (on the left) and Fulton Avenue. The first is regularly graded and graveled and while not a highway, it's perfect for sightseeing. That said, if you're looking for a little adventure, the unmaintained road on the right is the one you want to take. Both cut through the bluffs of the area which are composed of a relatively loose and porous sediment known as loess. I also have this image in color in my The Midwest - Illinois Iowa etc. gallery.
