This barberry shrub, properly Berberis, was not flowering when I took the photo, but I found the pretty red and purple leaves quite as pretty as any blossom would have been. Because they are evergreens, these bushes are used as ornamentals in gardens; but they are also very dense and have sharp spines so they are often planted as barriers in public gardens or even below windows to discourage intruders.

I use my camera to explore the world around me and as a basis for creative expression. Because I live in Nebraska, I have a fondness for rural scenes that will be evident as you explore my images, but I enjoy traveling and have many other interests as well. I hope you enjoy your visit.
